Hyeongsang Garden is a small manari samgyapsal restaurant just outside of Pohang; it is situated on a parsley (manari) farm and difficult to find if you don’t know what you are looking for. I went there on a Wednesday evening for a work dinner. The restaurant itself is in a large tent and was very busy even on a Wednesday night, so it wasn’t the most comfortable experience. However, a packed restaurant on a weekday night is a good sign.
They serve standard Korean BBQ samgyapsal, with mushrooms and salad for the sides. What is unusual about this place is that you wrap your meat in parsley instead of lettuce. The parsley is more flavorful than you might imagine, which is good since the meat isn’t seasoned unless you add ssamjang sauce. To finish, they serve a bokeumbap cooked in the meat juices.
It was a unique experience, I don’t know anywhere else where you can get this style of BBQ.
